The Lake Turns It's Back Against The People

A visit to Kisumu’s share of lake Victoria caught us with the stunning natural beauty giving us the urge to explore its shores and discover the magic within. During heavy rainy seasons, the communities living around this lake have very painful and worrying stories to tell. In light of this, we decided to pay a visit to Kano plains which is over 300 sq. kilometres area located by the shores of lake Victoria. The area is known for its extensive flat-lands and fertile soils. Kano supports the rich Ahero and west Kano paddy fields known for their excellent rice production. The tens of beaches in Kano produces fish consumed locally and traded in the vast East African region. Kano fertile soils produces cane feeding three sugar factories. Reeds, vegetables and thousands of other plants and vegetation find homage in the Kano plains. Humans, domestic and wild animals and hundreds of different bird species share a pride of existence in the Kano plain lands. The better part of these is currently submerged in water following the backflow of lake Victoria. The backflow from the rising water levels in the lake has rendered many roads in such areas impassable, displaced a big number of families and led to mass destruction of property and loss of lives.
